Anna Whitt, the daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised
herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive
to make such a vow. She’d been naive about a lot of things.
Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive,
even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as
her school’s party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the
while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and
mind.
When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds
herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain
support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon
becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping
to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put
aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and
face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?
This is the second book in the Sweet trilogy, and Sweet
Peril is a little slower paced compared to the first book, Sweet Evil. Nevertheless,
is doesn't lack it adventure or exciting scenes. I believe this book is the
calm before the storm. The relationship between Kaidan and Anna was rough in
this book, and my heart hurt because of it. So much happened between them. Anna
went through a lot of changes and it hurt to see her have to go through them
but she kept true to herself in the end. We get to see Kaidan grow as a
character and open up more, which is what I was waiting for. The part I was
most excited about it the fact that we finally get to meet more Nephs! It was
entertaining to seem them all together. There was never a dull moment when they
are together. There was a little jealousy over Anna going on between Kaidan and
another Neph, which spiced up the book a lot, and it also allowed the reader to
see how deep Kaidan’s feelings for Anna run. I love a good jealously angle in
books, it never fails to make things a little more interesting and make a hard
headed hero see the light.
Sweet Peril will have you on edge the whole time. Wendy
knows how to keep your attention that's for sure. Although this book was a
little slower paced than the first, it was still captivating. I read it on one
sitting simply because every page pushed me to turn to the next. This book was
more about character development than anything and I think it was necessary. I
loved seeing the interaction between Kaidan and Anna even though most of the
time I wanted to hit Kaidan, but I still love him. We got to see a lot of
growth in Anna and Kaidan, and the plans for the future begin to become clearer
in Sweet Peril. It's obvious that something big is coming and I can't wait to
see what happens with Anna and Kaidan in Sweet Reckoning. I give this book four out of five stars.
