Handpicked to host the first-ever L’eihr exchange student, Cara thinks
her future is set. Not only does she get a free ride to her dream college,
she’ll have inside information about the mysterious L’eihrs that every
journalist would kill for. Cara’s blog following is about to skyrocket.
Still, Cara isn’t sure what to think when she meets Aelyx. Humans and
L’eihrs have nearly identical DNA, but cold, infuriatingly brilliant Aelyx
couldn’t seem more alien. She’s certain about one thing, though: no human boy
is this good-looking.
But when Cara's classmates get swept up by anti-L'eihr paranoia,
Midtown High School suddenly isn't safe anymore. Threatening notes appear in
Cara's locker, and a police officer has to escort her and Aelyx to class.
Cara finds support in the last person she expected. She realizes that
Aelyx isn’t just her only friend; she's fallen hard for him. But Aelyx has been
hiding the truth about the purpose of his exchange, and its potentially deadly
consequences. Soon Cara will be in for the fight of her life—not just for
herself and the boy she loves, but for the future of her planet.
I saw the cover of Alienated floating around Instagram a lot
recently, and I kind of fell in love with the cover. Then after I read the
synopsis of the book, I knew I had to read it. I had not ventured into the
world of science fiction or aliens until recently, and I have noticed that the
sci-fi novels are starting to appeal to me more. I loved the concept of Alienated. I have only
read a handful of sci-fi books, but I know this one is amazing.
The beginning is intriguing. It had me interested to read
more, and by the third chapter, I was determined to see how this book played
out. I loved the fact that we get Cara and Aelyx’s POV in the book. It’s
interesting to see how the L’eihrs view our world. I wondered how Cara would
take to Aelyx and what Aelyx and his two other friends had in store for Cara’s
world. Whatever it was it couldn’t be good, and I wanted to know what happened.
I quickly got attached to Cara. She is easy to love. She is sweet, a redhead (a
winner in my book simply for that), sometimes shy, considerate, and an
overachiever. She even blogs! She is practically me. Aelyx takes some getting
used to. He is rude at first, but he slowly starts to warm up to Cara and the
human race. However, once I learned his plans for earth, I was stuck between
hating him and loving him. I felt like Aelyx was going to hurt Cara with his
intentions and I was hoping throughout the book that Aelyx would change. As the
story progresses Cara’s life gets harder and harder. My heart hurt for her and
the hatred she had to endure was insane, especially from those who presumed to
love her. I keep getting angry on Cara and Aelyx's behalf. I wanted to hurt
anyone that hurt them even though Aelyx was being shady. However, the way Aelyx
changes halfway through the book is just heart melting. The way he cared for
Cara's wellbeing is just so sweet. I am telling you, some of those scenes between
Cara and Aelyx were to die for. I totally approve. Alienated does not lack in action or romance.
It has a great mix of the two.
I absolutely loved Alienated. It's full of adventure,
intergalactic romance, mystery, action, and characters that will have you
rooting for them until you are blue in the face. This book brought me out of my
reading slump faster than you can say "slump". Alienated kept me up
until 3 AM, if that tells you anything about it. I cannot wait to get my hands
on the second book! I highly recommend
it not only to sci-fi lovers, but also to readers looking for a new and
exciting book to explore. Just saying, if you love the Lux series, you should
totally give this series a try. I give it five out of five stars!
